Florence

I took a picture in my cap and gown to visualize myself succeeding and then I did.

Florence dropped out of school in the 6th grade and it took her 5 years to finally earn her GED. She had two daughters in this time and didn’t have a job to pay her bills but she was determined to finish school. Florence also struggled with being in an abusive relationship.

“I kept facing obstacle after obstacle but I never gave up. I took a picture in my cap and gown to visualize myself succeeding and I never gave up.”

Florence kept focusing on her goal. She tried an adult education center and it helped her pass social studies, science and reasoning through language arts. However, she found it easier to study math on her own so she wouldn’t get as frustrated.

“I was just crazy determined to pass and show my family, friends and teachers that I could do it.”

Now that Florence has her GED she would one day like to open her own beauty salon. She signed up for a cosmetology course the same day she earned her diploma.
